Arsenal fans, bad injury news isn't an anomaly for you and though you are probably used to it by now (after all Abou Diaby played for your club) - there's some very frustrating news as far as injuries are concerned.

That's because it's now emerged that midfielder Santi Cazorla will not play again this season and is instead targeting a return to action in the next campaign.

Cazorla hasn't made an appearance for Arsenal since October due to an achilles tendon problem which caused him to undergo surgery.

Did Cazorla feature in our Spanish Premier League XI? Check it out here:

The initial prognosis was that the former Malaga midfielder would return in March and Arsene Wenger was hopeful that the Spaniard would be back to give his side a boost in the latter stages of the season.

Speaking in January, he said:

"Santi is far from starting to run again. He had a little procedure and we have a meeting with the medical people today to see what it really was.'Certainly he will not be available in the next six weeks, that is for sure.

"Will he play again this season? I hope so because once you start to go outside, you have to count six weeks' preparation.

"At the moment he is not at that level. 'Let's hope he can come back in the next three or four weeks on the pitch."

Evidence suggested that Cazorla wasn't anywhere near ready for a return to action just over a week ago when he was pictured out in London, wearing a flip-flop on his injured foot.

And according to The Mirror, Cazorla will be out for the rest of the season.

John Cross, normally reliable for Arsenal news, reports that the ankle problem is taken longer to heal than anticipated and so Arsenal fans won't get to see one of the most important players on the pitch until next season rolls around.

He has undergone several operations, procedures and treatments from specialists in the hope of getting him back to full-fitness as soon as possible but the consensus is that the club are now of the opinion that he will not feature again and they are instead concentrating on getting him up to speed for next season.

Though he has only made 11 appearances, Cazorla keeps Arsenal ticking over in the middle of the park and has been sorely missed this season. He is also well-liked around the club and in the Arsenal squad.

A big blow for Arsenal.
