Hot on the heels of securing a contract extension for David Silva, Manchester City look set to extend another of their star players' stays at the Etihad Stadium.

Last gasp winner extraordinaire Raheem Sterling is expected to sign a new deal with the Premier League leaders, following his electric start to the current campaign, according to Sky Sports sources.

The England international, a £50 million arrival from Liverpool in 2015, has struggled for consistency during his time as a City player, but this season has developed into one of Pep Guardiola's most important players, scoring a career best 13 goals in just 19 games. Sterling's previous best total goalscoring haul for a single campaign was 11, which he achieved in 2014/15 and again in 2015/16.

The 22-year-old scored a last gasp winner against Southampton on Wednesday night as well as a late winner against Huddersfield Town, last Sunday, to maintain City's eight point lead at the top of the Premier League table and further underpinning his importance to Pep Guardiola.

There is no word yet as to how much Sterling will earn on his new deal, should he sign it, or for how long it will be, but given his recent form, you would assume the City board would want to tie the former Liverpool youngster down for as long as possible.
