Gareth Bale has been subject to intense criticism from his own set of fans, and he was even targeted during a marketing event.
The Welsh winger was jeered, whistled and generally heckled as Real Madrid opened their 2017/18 Champions League campaign.
The defending European champions easily picked up three points after beating Apoel Nicosia 3-0 on Wednesday night.

And after receiving abuse earlier in the week, the heat from the Real Madrid faithfuls continued as Bale took part in a sponsored event.
He was in Gran Via in the centre of Madrid, with angry fans shouting "speak Spanish" according to Spanish outlet AS.

At said event, Bale spoke about the clubs target: "The season started very well with two trophies, but the season doesn't finish there and we want to win every title we can this season."
While maintaining a desire to make it a hat-trick of Champions League titles: "Absolutely, to be the first club to win three Champions League in a row is great motivation for the club and for me as well as a player."

Meanwhile, as Bale returns to full fitness, his teammate Toni Kroos has leaped to his defence.
"It is, of course, not a good thing to whistle against your own players. We gave our all, and Gareth also, and no-one deserved it," the German said via ESPN.
"This is Real Madrid and everybody wants to see the best of each player, but there are games where it is impossible to play at the best level.

"But one thing is clear -- it does not help anyone," he added.
Bale's tenure in the Spanish capital remains under intense scrutiny with the player heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.
And if the rampant jeering continues, no doubt a transfer away from Spain could become a lot more viable with Jose Mourinho a keen admirer.
