Andrey Arshavin Has Made Some Pretty Strong Olympic Doping Claims

Is he onto something or is he just very bitter?

Remember Andrey Arshavin? That little Russian playmaker who Arsenal broke their transfer record for so he could pull a few funny faces, play well against Liverpool every now and again and not do much else? Well he now plays for Kazakh outfit FC Kairat and is trying to remain relevant by making sweeping statements about doping in the Olympics.

The former Zenit St. Petersburg midfielder, who once claimed that the standard of women's football was too low to take seriously, has claimed that many of the most popular sports in the Olympics are rife with drug cheats.

Russia infamously had a large portion of their Olympic team banned from the games as well as being completely disqualified from the Paralympics due to widespread doping at the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014. Yet Arshavin thinks Russia are not alone in their wrongdoing and believes the entire games are being competed by dopers.

"Russia is paying for its political decisions, including in sport. Is it fair or unfair? Life isn't fair. Of course, this is a great tragedy for the athletes, especially the Olympians.

"For them, this is the World Cup and European Championship for footballers. We have every two years, with good players, earning good money at clubs, and they have the reverse.

"[They have] almost one or two chances in life to get an apartment, a normal premium. Of course I understand them, they are not in the best condition now."

I shouldn't imagine they are in the best condition, Andrey, what with their state pumping them full of steroids.
