A XI Made Up Of Out-Of-Contract Players Is Truly Ridiculous

A XI Made Up Of Out-Of-Contract Players Is Truly Ridiculous

We could have a lot of big free transfers on the cards!

The summer transfer window has just opened as clubs around the world will no doubt already be plotting their business as they look to improve their squads.

And while we're bracing ourselves for another window of big spending, there could well be several top-tier free transfers given the sheer quality of players available.

WATCH: The transfers that never were XI...

The volume of top-level players out of contract in the summer is so high that we've put together a pretty ridiculous XI.

We've done similar before, but the situation has changed with a lot of players so it only feels right to do an updated version.

In goal, Gianluigi Buffon is the best bet when it comes to goalkeepers available.

The legendary stopper is to call time on his storied Juventus career at the end of the season, and is available on a free transfer with plenty of clubs keeping tabs on the 40-year-old.

Then, on the right side of a back three is Atletico's experienced right-back Juanfran, who looks set to leave the Spanish capital in the summer.

Lazio's in-demand centre-back Stefan De Vrij comfortably makes the team, playing alongside the Italian wall that is Giorgio Chiellini at the heart of the backline. Surely Juventus will tie him down to a new deal, but at the time of writing he's out-of-contract when the summer rolls around.

In midfield is where it gets spicy. Monaco's Joao Moutinho and Schalke's Max Meyer, still yet to make a decision on his future, are in the mix, as are Emre Can and Jack Wilshere.

Can has been stalling on an extension at Anfield and it seems as though he'll become the latest brilliant player to move to Juventus for nothing. Wilshere, meanwhile, has been brilliant since regaining full fitness but it remains to be seen whether he will follow Mesut Ozil in signing a new deal.

On the flanks, we've obviously opted for the deadly duo of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, who will both go down as Bayern Munich legends. 'Robbery' are out of contract in Bavaria as it stands, and though they are getting on, that could still change.

Up top, we finish the side with Mario Balotelli. The Italian has been in sublime form for Nice this season after re-signing with the Ligue One outfit, scoring 19 goals in 25 appearances and putting himself back in contention for the Italian national team.

Notable mentions: Yaya Toure, Bernard, Hatem Ben Arfa, Gervinho, Oğuzhan Özyakup and Marouane Fellaini.

Thoughts on the team? Think you could field a better XI?
