It's not taken long for Alvaro Morata to figure out that Premier League defences aren't really up to much, with Chelsea's Spanish striker labelling defenders in the English top flight as 'sloppy' during a recent interview.

Morata has scored twice during his first three appearances in the Premier League, after completing a £58 million move from Real Madrid, this summer.

The Spanish striker has previously tested himself against defences in La Liga and Serie A during spells with Real and Juventus and has already noticed the difference in quality between the opposition in England and on the continent.

Speaking to El Pais, Morata said, via Metro, "Tactically Chelsea are Italian, you have to conform to a system. The striker has to be a reference point for his teammates.

"You need to fight with the centre-backs and they're much stronger physically than in any other country.

"It's true that they're sloppy tactically and they give you chances because they slip up, but it's a different kind of football.'In Spain you have time to think and hold on to the ball. Here if you hold the ball you'll already have been given two kicks.

Morata was brought to Stamford Bridge as a replacement for his fellow Spain international, Diego Costa, who was expected to leave the English champions, this summer, but didn't manage to secure a move away despite a rivalry with manager Antonio Conte that began back in January.

The 24-year-old already has a strong pedigree, having helped Juventus secure two Serie A titles and a place in the 2015 Champions League final, while also winning last season's La Liga title and Champions League with Los Blancos, scoring 20 goals in 43 games, in the process.

Given the way he's started the season, we expect Morata will continue to enjoy himself against the 'sloppy' defences of the English top flight throughout the 2017/18 campaign.
