Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has responded to the blunt and brutal comments made by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry earlier in the season.

The 24-year old left the Emirates for Anfield in a £35 million switch and endured a difficult start to life at his new club.

Prior to him even making his debut in the 5-0 defeat against Manchester City in September, Henry gave his honest thoughts on Oxlade-Chamberlain's ability as a footballer. Gary Neville was in agreement.

"You have to bring something on the table. I have been watching him for a very long time and I still don't know what he's good at," Henry said on Sky Sports.

"You can find out on all players what they are not good at, but normally you also find out what they are good at.

"He needs to bring something to the table and give something to work with."

Six months on though, and the Southampton academy product is beginning to really find his feet on Merseyside.

He notched the opening goal in the win over Manchester City in January and was brilliant in back-to-back home victories over West Ham and Newcastle United, registering an assist in both games.

With his upturn in confidence clear to see in his recent displays, Oxlade-Chamberlain hit back at Henry, who he worked with briefly at Arsenal.

"I was very aware of those comments. It is not nice to hear it from your peers or people you have worked with,'' he said via ESPN.

"Saying you don't know what I do when you have worked with me, I think it is a bit stupid.

"When you have watched someone long enough you know what they can do. They can have their own opinions. It cannot shake me.

"Everyone says you have to be your own biggest fan and believe in yourself. I am old enough and wise enough and I have been around it long enough to know that things will be said, and not nice things a lot of the time - and when you are doing well, nice things will be said."

The England international did say that he is well aware that he needs to improve his end product and knows he needs to kick on.

"It is about end product, scoring goals, setting up goals as an attacking player and that is what I have to keep doing.

"If they [Henry and Neville] are referencing more end product then that is fair enough, I hold my hands up. There is more in me, I know I have to keep pushing on. I can take so much from someone like Mo Salah."
