Alan Shearer Says There's Only Four Players He'd Keep At Manchester City

Pep Guardiola has a lot of work to do

Pep Guardiola may have inherited supremely talented squads when taking over as the head coach of Barcelona and then Bayern Munich, but the two time Champions League winning manager will have a much bigger challenge on his hands when he takes over at Manchester City this Summer and Alan Shearer thinks the Catalan needs to perform a major revamp of the current City squad.

Writing in his column for The Sun, the England and Newcastle United legend was pretty scathing in his assessment of the current crop of City players, claiming he would keep just four of Manuel Pellegrini's Capital One Cup winners.

"Manuel Pellegrini delivered the title in his first season in charge, but it has been pretty limp in the league since then.

"He can point to a pair of League Cups - but this club's aims are a lot higher.

"He will point to a semi- final spot in the Champions League. But the performances against Real Madrid pretty much summed up the final year of Pellegrini's tenure - just not good enough."

"City and Pellegrini have got it very wrong over the last two seasons - and their recruitment of players gives Pep Guardiola plenty to do this summer.

"Who would you keep? Joe Hart, Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne - that's about it for me."

What do you make of Shearer's assessment? Harsh but fair? Overly critical? Have your say in the comments section, below.
