Che Adams opened his Premier League account in sensational fashion with a 40-yard goal against Manchester City this evening.

Oleksandr Zinchenko was dispossessed by Stuart Armstrong and former Birmingham City man Adams spotted Ederson off his line before curling in a phenomenal finish for his first goal in Southampton colours.

Having made his debut back in August 2019 following a £15 million summer move, Adams went 330 days without finding the net as a Southampton player.

But with the awareness and execution for his wondrous opener at St Mary's on Sunday evening, you could say his first goal was well worth the wait.

Former Sheffield United striker Adams has come from the lower leagues but upon his arrival at Southampton, he displayed the highest level of ambition despite the club finishing 17th in the previous campaign.

Talking to Southampton's YouTube channel, Adams revealed he's got his eyes on the Premier League title.

Adams said: "Southampton's a huge club. Obviously, we want to win the league. Obviously, it's a lot to ask for.

"But you have to set yourself new targets to hit. And with the squad here that I've seen from last season, there's no reason that we can't (win the Premier League)."

Heavily linked with a move to Leeds United in the January transfer window, Adams will be hoping he doesn't have to wait so long for his second Premier League goal.
