News broke last night that Everton winger Aaron Lennon has been detained under the mental health act.

The Toffees man is believed to be suffering from a stress related illness and was found on the side of a busy road near the M602 in Salford by local police.

Lennon, 30, spent 20 minutes with officers from Greater Manchester Police who reported him as being in a precarious situation.

A spokesperson for the GMP said in an official statement, "Police were called at around 4.35pm on Sunday, April 30, 2017 to reports of a concern for the welfare of a man. 'Officers attended and a 30-year-old man was detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act and was taken to hospital for assessment.'"

Everton have also released a statement on the England international's well being:

"Aaron Lennon is currently receiving care and treatment for a stress-related illness. The club is supporting him through this and his family has appealed for privacy at this time."

Lennon arrived at Goodison Park as a £4m signing from Tottenham Hotspur in 2015 after initially impressing on a loan spell. He has made 58 appearances in a Toffees shirt, scoring nine goals.

The former Spurs man also has 21 England caps to his name and won the 2008 League Cup during his time at White Hart Lane.
