A Deadline Day Transfer Was Arranged Through Snapchat

A Deadline Day Transfer Was Arranged Through Snapchat

Transfers in 2018...

I've always wondered just what goes into a Deadline day transfer. Often it can be a very complicated process, with the deal touch and go as to whether it's going to get over the line or not.

On other occasions, it can all be very straightforward. For me personally, I've always been curious as to what methods managers, agents, players and club officials use to communicate regarding deals - with fax, emails and text messages generally being the primary ways and means by which a transfer is arranged before the contract is signed.

However, with advances in technology and the rise of social media, evidently things have evolved - as proved by Aleksandar Mitrovic in his move to Fulham.

The Serbian looked set to be return to former club Anderlecht and even flew out to Belgium. However, the move fell through in what was a hectic deadline day for the enigmatic striker.

Having failed to start a single game in the Premier League though, he was desperate to leave the club and got in touch with Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic, after previously telling him to look for another striker.

It wasn't via text though, Mitrovic messaged him on Snapchat to get the ball rolling.

"How are you?" He wrote to the Cottagers manager, as revealed in an interview with The Times.

"It's your lucky day, the deal is broken."

Mitrovic then ended deadline day as a Fulham player and made his debut as a substitute in the 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on February 3.

He believes dropping back down to the Championship was the correct decision.

"I chose Fulham because of the style, because of the coach," he added.

"Fulham play the best football in the league, definitely. It is the best move for me, even better than Anderlecht probably."

I'd love to know if any transfers were arranged through MSN, MySpace or Bebo back in the day. Surely Harry Redknapp would have been all over it? Actually, maybe he was a carrier-pigeon kind of guy.
