A disastrous deal all-round...

One of the Premier League's worst flops in recent times has finally left England after just seven appearances.

Guido Carrillo arrived at Southampton for a then-club-record £19 million from AS Monaco in January 2018 and Saints fans hoped he would bring an extra bit of firepower in attack.

However, the Argentine did nothing of the sort and ended up playing ten times in all competitions - failing to score a single goal whilst wearing the No.9 shirt on his back.

After two campaigns on loan at CD Leganes in La Liga, Carrillo has now returned to Spain with Elche. Saints agreed to terminate his contract, allowing him to move on a free transfer on transfer deadline day.

A brief statement on the official Southampton website read: "The club thanks Guido for his efforts during his time at Southampton and wishes him well for the future."

Carrillo has been touted as Southampton's biggest ever flops and was one of a number of departures for the South Coast club yesterday.

Sofiane Boufal, who was snapped up for £16 million in 2016, has returned to his first club Angers on a free transfer after falling out of favour under Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Meanwhile, defender Wesley Hoedt was allowed to rejoin Lazio on a loan deal. Saints reportedly paid £15 million to sign him from the Rome outfit three years back.
