A huge initiative...

Lionel Messi and Neymar are the two talisman for their national teams for the World Cup, and the pair are certainly well in the conversation when it comes to the favourites to be the top scorer in the tournament.

And the former Barcelona colleagues' goals in Russia have become that much more valuable courtesy of an initiative from Mastercard.

It's been revealed that any time the South American duo find the net in the showpiece, 10,000 meals will be donated to the United Nations World Food Program and help fight hunger and malnutrition amongst youngsters in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The 'Start Something Priceless' campaign got underway on April 10 but the scheme is not merely for the World Cup, as any time Messi or Neymar score in an official tournament across the next 21 months, children in poverty will be getting fed as a result.

"I'm proud to be a part of this campaign that will help change the lives of thousands of children in my country and other regions of the world. I hope this initiative gives as many smiles as possible to all the children." Messi said on the initiative.

His ex attacking partner Neymar commented:

"I'm happy I can help make sure that children in the region can have a plate of food and more hope. Latin Americans know we can do great things when we come together, and this is an example of that. Together we can fight hunger."

Feeding underprivileged kids is a brilliant thing but it's understandable that a section of people would be opposed to the the idea and feel it shouldn't take two of the world's best to score goals for their country for people to be fed.

But still at the same time, you can almost guarantee that there will be food on the table for those in need because it is Messi and Neymar we are talking about.
