'Anti-American' Megan Rapinoe Makes Shock Comparison With Donald Trump, His Supporters Are Furious

'Anti-American' Megan Rapinoe Makes Shock Comparison With Donald Trump, His Supporters Are Furious

"He doesn't spread false narratives," one fan said. Megan Rapinoe claimed people liked Donald Trump for how he said "some wild a**e s**t."

Megan Rapinoe has been branded “anti-American” and a “loser” by furious fans after making a surprising comparison with former United States President Donald Trump.

The 36-year-old US star has engaged in a heated rivalry with Trump and the pair haven’t been afraid to trade verbal blows with one another.

Rapinoe, an outspoken champion on equal pay for women in football, famously declared in 2019 that she wouldn’t visit the White House under the Trump administration.

Trump, who lost the 2020 presidential election to President Joe Biden, launched a scathing attack on Rapinoe and her US teammates at the Olympics this summer.

The 75-year-old American accused the US women’s national team of supporting “woke politics” and “wokeism” after some of the players took the knee ahead of kick-off at Tokyo 2020.

Rapinoe won a bronze medal in the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, but Trump ruthlessly criticised her by claiming she focused “too much time thinking about radical left politics.”

Rapinoe has now defended herself from her critics by suggesting that she is similar to how people like Trump for saying “some wild a**e s**t” -- but her messages were “for good.”

Speaking in the HBO and CNN documentary LFG, she said: “I am who I am all the time.

“It’s not like some act. I mean, I don’t know if I want to make this comparison, but in the same ways that people liked that Trump just said some wild a**e s**t, but, like, I’m like that, but for good. You know? And like, we need more of that.”

Rapinoe’s comments in LFG, which was broadcast on CNN on Monday, sparked backlash from supporters of Trump on social media.

Rapinoe hit back at Trump over the former US president criticising the women's team after their third-placed finish at Tokyo 2020.

However, former US international Hope Solo has accused the 2019 Women's Ballon d'Or winner of ‘almost bullying’ players into taking the knee.

Last month, a US study also revealed that a huge number of Americans were in favour of Subway dropping Megan Rapinoe as its brand ambassador amid her Olympics controversy.
