Manchester United Redesign Has One Notable Absentee From Old Trafford Poster

Manchester United Redesign Has One Notable Absentee From Old Trafford Poster

There is one noticeable absentee from Manchester United's new banner outside Old Trafford.

Following the stunning acquisition of Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, Manchester United have unveiled a new banner featuring several of their star players draped outside Old Trafford - but there is one noticeable absentee.

This weekend, the Red Devils will host Newcastle United at the Theatre of Dreams, with Ronaldo expected to make his eagerly anticipated second debut.

Ahead of the game, United have displayed a striking new banner on the East Stand forecourt in an attempt to sum up the euphoria around the return of fans to Old Trafford, however, there is one key star missing.

Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford are all featured prominently in the collage-style display of players, alongside United women stars like Jackie Groenen.

The new layout retains the same feel as the first incarnation before United’s 5-1 hammering of Leeds United on the opening day of the season, but there's a catch.

Eagle-eyed fans have noticed that midfield maestro Paul Pogba is surprisingly missing from the new artwork, with many deliberating over the World Cup winner’s future at the club.

So far this season, Pogba is the top assister in the Premier League - with five assists in total - which makes it even stranger that he hasn’t been included in the banner.

Interestingly, the France international provided just three assists in 26 games last season, a tally which he surpassed in the very first match of the 2021/22 season.

Pogba still has 36 matches to go and needs to provide 15 more assists to match the record of the most number of assists in a single Premier League season.

Dismayed fans have since taken to social media to comment on United’s decision not to include the 28-year-old.

Supporters will be able to feast their eyes on the updated forecourt visage on Saturday when the Red Devils host the Magpies this weekend.

Pogba was heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain during this summer’s transfer window, however, a move to the French capital never materialised.

Could the non-inclusion of Pogba on the new banner be a sign that the French star could be on his way out of Old Trafford? Only time will tell.
