Manchester City And PSG Have Drastically Changed Since First Meeting In Europe

City and PSG face each other in the Champions League, but it was a lot different when they met in the UEFA Cup in 2008.

Manchester City and PSG face each other on Tuesday night in the Champions League, and they've come a long way since their first meeting in 2008.

City and PSG are amongst the favourites for this season's title as champions of Europe, and it's understandable considering the huge amounts of talent in both their sides.

Pep Guardiola can call upon Kevin de Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish in his attacking line up.

Mauricio Pochettino on the other hand will have the ridiculous front three of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi at his disposal.

The two teams first met in the UEFA Cup back in 2008, long before became the superpowers they are now, and the teams were extremely different.

City lined up with a front three of a 19-year-old Daniel Sturridge, Darius Vassell and the much maligned Jo, whilst Vincent Kompany played in defence.

The visitors arrived in Manchester with former Chelsea flop Mateja Kezman up front, with Jerome Rothen and Peguy Luyindula either side of him.

It was the 2008/09 season and the Abu Dhabi Group had bought the club on September 1st, on the final day of the transfer window, and brought Robinho to the squad.

They had qualified for the UEFA Cup, then the second tier of European competition before the change to the Europa League a year later, by being the highest place side without European football in the Fair Play League.

Mark Hughes' side won their opening two games of the group and had already qualified for the knockout stages when they faced Paul Le Guen's team.

PSG were three years away from their huge ownership change and qualified for Europe after winning the Coup de la Ligue, despite finishing 16th in Ligue 1, imagine them finishing there now!

The game finished 0-0 between the two sides in 2008, but it seems rather unlikely that it will happen again...
