Manchester United Star 'Would Love To Wear' Barcelona Shirt And Wants January Transfer

Manchester United Star 'Would Love To Wear' Barcelona Shirt And Wants January Transfer

Xavi wants to bolster his forward options at Barcelona, with former PSG star Edinson Cavani open to a transfer away from Manchester United.

Edinson Cavani is reportedly keen to play under Barcelona legend Xavi at the Camp Nou and would be open to a move away from Manchester United in January.

The 34-year-old United striker impressed during his debut season at Old Trafford by scoring 17 times and registering 10 assists in 40 appearances.

Cavani, who will be out of contract in June 2022, has seen his playing time reduced this season and managed to score once in eight appearances for United.

Xavi is eager to reinforce his forward options amid uncertainty surrounding Sergio Aguero, whose playing career has been plunged into doubt due to a heart condition.

According to Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness), Cavani has been identified as a target who could help with the ‘lack of goals’ at Barcelona this season.

It is also reported that Cavani would ‘would love to wear’ the Barcelona shirt and could sign for the La Liga club in January.

The Spanish newspaper added that sources ‘close to the player’ claim that the former Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli star sees Barcelona as a ‘great challenge.’

And playing at the Camp Nou would be the ‘icing on the cake’ for Cavani’s club career.

Cavani, who extended his United contract back in May, is ‘sympathetic to their [Barcelona] financial difficulties’ and money wouldn’t be an obstacle for the transfer.

The Uruguay international has been sidelined due to a tendon problem and hasn’t featured for United since their 2-2 draw against Atalanta in the Champions League.

The United star revealed that he spent the international break in South America to work on his fitness.

“During this period of the international break, I've had the chance to stop and focus on this niggling injury that I'm feeling in the tendon in my leg,” Cavani told United’s website.

“So I can speed up my recovery and come back quickly and be available for my club and national team.

“So, during this time, I was able to spend a few days in Uruguay, do some fitness and recovery work and stuff and, in turn, I managed to see my family at the same time, which is always important, to see your family and be close to them.”
