Manchester United Squad 'Unimpressed' With Way In Which Ralf Rangnick Was Appointed

Manchester United's squad were left in the dark over the appointment of Ralf Rangnick.

Manchester United's squad are said to be unimpressed after being left in the dark over the appointment of Ralf Rangnick.

The 63-year-old is slated to take over at United until the end of the season, replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjær as interim boss after the Norwegian was sacked on Sunday.

According to the Daily Star, however, a number of players were not happy with the lack of information from the club.

News of Rangnick being drafted in by United emerged prior to the players actually being made aware of the situation.

There was no word from officials in person or in the United WhatsApp chat and very quickly the appointment of the German was common knowledge following The Athletic's breaking story.

Understandably United had been hoping to keep things hush hush, but at this point it's common knowledge of who the club's next manager is.

It's said there was a five-man shortlist drawn up by the Red Devils and they went with Rangnick, who is head of sports and development at Lokomotiv Moscow.

He is to be released from his £3.8 million-a-year contract, meaning United won't have to pay any compensation.

Initially reluctant to take the position, he accepted when talks progressed and it was agreed that he would take up a consultancy role once his interim stint is finished.

Rangnick, who managed RB Leipzig, Hoffenheim and Schalke, still needs to secure a UK work permit.

As a result, Michael Carrick will manage the second game of his caretaker spell against Chelsea on Sunday and will look to build on a 2-0 win over Villarreal.

Rangnick and his gegenpressing style influenced the likes of Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nagelsmann and Jurgen Klopp, the latter saying "it's not good news for other teams" and "unfortunately a good coach is coming to Manchester United!".
