Man City Reject January Transfer Approach From Newcastle United

Man City Reject January Transfer Approach From Newcastle United

Pep Guardiola plans to use him this season.

Manchester City have turned down an offer from Newcastle United for one of their up-and-coming stars ahead of the January transfer window.

Eddie Howe's team are on the hunt for new talent ahead of the second half of the season as they look to avoid the drop from the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola, on the other hand, will be hoping to keep his side together as they look to bag another league title and mount a challenge for the elusive Champions League.

With the impending loss of Ferran Torres to Barcelona, the Man City boss is reluctant to let any of his other attackers leave next month.

And reports linking Cole Palmer with Newcastle has been rejected by the Blues, who have no intention of selling the youngster in January.

That's according to Sam Lee, with the 19-year-old set to feature in Guardiola's plans in the coming months.

Newcastle had identified the promising attacker as an option in January, but will have to look elsewhere for reinforcements.

Palmer has featured nine times for Man City this season, scoring two goals - one in the EFL Cup against Wycombe Wanderers and another in the Champions League against Club Brugge.

Speaking after his goal in Europe, Guardiola showered Palmer with glowing praise and ruled out a loan move away from the club.

Asked about a potential loan switch, he replied "Absolutely not. I think he's going to stay this season with us.

"Cole has a special quality in front of the box that is difficult to find. When he has the ball there, most of them finish in the net. It is not easy to find it but I know how it works with young players in all countries.

"Be calm, be patient like we have done with Phil. His position is the second team - but at the same time he is training with us, taking the rhythm and the principles and of course he's a player for the future for the club.

"I'm happy for the goal, he could have done a few actions a little bit better but it's experience.

"When we can do it, we give the young players the opportunity."
