Peter Drury delivered a spine-tingling piece of commentary for Lionel Messi's goal, it will give you goosebumps

Peter Drury produced a brilliant moment of commentary following Lionel Messi's goal.

Peter Drury's commentary for Lionel Messi's stunning goal for Argentina against Mexico painted an incredible picture and the magnitude of the World Cup moment.

Messi starred as Argentina beat Mexico 2-0 at the Lusail Stadium in their Group C showdown on Saturday.

He opened the scoring just after the hour mark with a brilliant low drive into the bottom corner, then set up Enzo Fernandez who curled home a delightful strike into the back of the net three minutes from time.

The result sees Argentina remain in the tournament having suffered a shock defeat to Saudi Arabia in their World Cup opener.

And Drury delivered an epic line after Messi bagged his second goal in Qatar.

He said: "Lionel Messi! Oh, that’s what they came for. The magic man. One more Messi moment and Argentina are alive."

During the celebrations, Drury added: "They give thanks that he is one of them.

"How often have they said that prayer of thanks? How often have we seen those bright wide eyes? How often have we seen the face of opponents, the dismay that he should come and scar them?"

It comes after Drury produced a great moment on commentary when Cody Gakpo scored for the Netherlands against Ecuador.

Speaking after Argentina's win, the Paris Saint-Germain superstar revealed that the defeat to the Saudis rocked the camp as he shared his thoughts on the result.

"We lived with discomfort given the defeat in the opening match [against Saudi Arabia] was something we didn’t expect," said Messi.

"The days felt very long and we were eager to have the chance to turn it around.

"We knew it was a critical game. Luckily we had the option to win and it was a weight off our shoulders, a reason for joy and peace of mind because it is all down to us again.

"We needed this result, it seems like in the second half we made our true debut."
