If Justin Kluivert manages to have a career even close to as successful as his dad's then the young Dutch forward will have done very well. Dad Patrick explained why his son moved to Roma rather than another club.

Peter and Kasper Schmeichel, Cesare and Paolo Maldini, Steve and Alex Bruce, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Ian Wright, Tom and Paul Ince, Eidur and Arnór Guðjohnsen. All excellent footballing father and son duos but there's a few more coming through now.

Gianluigi Buffon seems to be on a one man mission to play with or against all his former opponents sons having recently teamed with Timothy Weah against Marcus Thuram, having made his debut against George Weah and played with Lilian Thuram previously.

Had Gigi stayed in Italy this season then there's every chance that he'd have faced Justin Kluivert, son of former Barcelona and Newcastle United striker Patrick, and they could yet face in Europe one day.

Justin left Ajax, where he had impressed massively in the previous two seasons, to join Roma in the summer and now is dad has explained why he moved to Serie A rather than with Manchester United, telling Gazzetta dello Sport:

"I think United would have been too big a jump.

"Roma are an important club but the pressures are less. Roma don't have to win at any cost and it is a club that is used to good football. It is the ideal place for Justin right now.

"I want to see him win with Roma and I want to see him happy."

Kluivert the younger had been linked with a move to Old Trafford ever since United and Ajax met in the Europa League final in 2017 where Jose Mourinho spoke to the 19 year old after the game.

With United looking like they need a winger, Juan Mata is currently filing that role on the right, they probably could have done worse than Kluivert.

Patrick also spoke about his son's development and revealed he'd have preferred Justin to have stayed at Ajax, adding, "I'm very satisfied with what he's doing. He doesn't talk much, but he's someone who knows how to listen and is motivated. I wanted him to stay at Ajax for another year, but he made his choice."

Just how far will Kluivert go?
