Zinedine Zidane gave his Real Madrid players a motivational speech on Tuesday, ahead of their Champions League win against Atalanta on Wednesday.

Real faced the tough task of going to Italy to face Atalanta on Wednesday, with the Serie A side the league's second top scorers who rarely fail to find the back of the net.

Los Blancos had reduced local rivals Atletico's lead at the top of the table down to three points in recent weeks but it was still likely to be a tough game.

Clearly Zidane was aware of that ahead of kick off as he attempted to inspire his side the day before the game, with a motivational speech.

"Treat this as your ground. Lately, you have been playing well. (...) But we have the quality to do everything well.

"Do what you always do - that's all, tomorrow, think positively. Think not just about the return leg. The tie begins tomorrow [Wednesday], here.

"Go into tomorrow's game treating it as though it is a single match, played here.

"We're doing well, we are playing as a team. And we need to defend as one, that is the most important thing.

"It is going to be very important that we play as a team and defender, because later on, the ball will go in for us."

It wasn't as easy as the 13 times European champions would have liked, even with the hosts down to 10 men for much of the game.

Remo Freuler was sent off in the 17th minute but it took until four minutes from the end until Ferland Mendy put the visitors ahead, scoring the all important away goal.

It's not the first time that a Zizou team talk has inspired his side with a speech in the Champions League, as he famously did so for the final in 2017.

Los Blancos went in at half-time against Juventus at 1-1 but the Frenchman's words inspired his team on to a 4-1 win over the Italians.

Will Zidane win a fourth Champions League as manager this year?
