In just over a year Paul Pogba has become one of the leaders in Jose Mourinho's Manchester United but he's named the two legendary names that are his role models at Old Trafford.

There was a lot of questions and sniggering last year when Manchester United spent £89 million on Paul Pogba, making him the most expensive footballer in the world, at the time.

Many questioned if he was worth the money, especially when he wasn't instantly the best player in the world. But slowly over the season his form improved and he became extremely important for United.

That's been proved at the beginning of this season and on the weekend, with Pogba injured, their midfield didn't look as dynamic.

Despite being just 24 the former Juventus player has become of the leaders on the pitch for the Red Devils and clearly has a great relationship with some of his teammates.

He is quickly becoming a bit of a role model for his colleagues but Pogba, talking to the United programme, via Goal, named his two role models as Michael Carrick and Paul Scholes saying:

"I've learned from Paul Scholes and Michael. I'm still learning from Michael. He is an example for me and I always look at him in training.

"I listen to his advice - every time, before a game, he comes to talk to me and he will ask me things and keep me calm. To be honest, he is a mentor to me and someone I look up to."

Carrick is now captain at Old Trafford since Wayne Rooney's departure in the summer. Image: PA

"Scholesy may not be here anymore but when I was younger I was looking at him a lot as a midfielder. To come on for him in his testimonial as a young player was a dream come true."

Scholes was still a United player when Pogba was coming through the youth system but retired not long later.

When the Frenchman arguably should have been making his first team breakthrough the first time he was at Old Trafford the legendary Scholes came out of retirement, partially leading to Pogba's departure.

If he can become as pivotal and successful as Carrick and Scholes then he'll have done well.
