Football Fans Have Voted For Their Country's Best Ever Player

Football Fans Have Voted For Their Country's Best Ever Player

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are unsurprisingly the best players for Argentina and Portugal respectively, according to the fans.

Everyone loves a debate about who the GOAT is of each and every sport but what about the best footballers for each country. MARCA let fans vote and they came up with some interesting calls.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo must be fed up of reading articles about which one of them is the best in the world. I can only assume they spend all their free time trying to decide based on everyone else's expert opinions.

So for once they get the chance to be nowhere near each other when it comes to a vote about who is the best ever.

That's because this vote, or votes as it happens to be, is based on who the best footballer of all time is for each country.

You'll find absolutely no surprise that Messi is the greatest player from Argentina ever and Ronaldo is the greatest player from Portugal ever, as per Marca.

Messi finished on 53% of his vote with Diego Maradona in second on 42%. Ronaldo's 81% beat Eusebio's 19% by a landslide but they weren't the only winners of course:

Argentina: Lionel Messi

Germany: Franz Beckenbauer

Brazil: Ronaldo and Ronaldinho

With 34% each these two couldn't be separated, just beating Pele into third. Image: PA Images

Croatia: Luka Modric

Denmark: Peter Schmeichel

Chile: Ivan Zamorano

Colombia: Carlos Valderrama

Egypt: Mo Salah

Spain: Xavi and Andres Iniesta

It's only right the Barca pair share the title with 29% each. Image: PA Images

USA: Landon Donovan

France: Zinedine Zidane

Italy: Paolo Maldini

Mexico: Hugo Sanchez

Netherlands: Johan Cruyff

Portugal: Cristiano Ronaldo

Sweden: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Turkey: Hakan Sukur

Uruguay: Diego Forlan

Despite Ronaldo's dominance in the vote for Portugal he isn't the most dominant person in a country's vote. His 81% pales in comparison to Zlatan and Zidane, both of whom have 89% of their vote and with more opposition, with Mo Salah on 86%.

Brazil has the tightest vote. As well as Ronaldo and Ronaldinho being level on 34%, Pele is in third on 30% which leaves just 2% for Neymar.

Who do you think is the best player in one of the countries not on the list?
