Diego Maradona Claims He Wants To Manage Argentina Again

Diego Maradona Claims He Wants To Manage Argentina Again

The footballing legend had a stint as Argentina manager previously and it didn't go too well.

Argentina were lucky to even qualify for the World Cup next summer and their preparation hasn't started well after their 4-2 loss to Nigeria on Tuesday night. To really throw things into chaos Diego Maradona has claimed he wants to be manager.

Weirdly Argentina and Lionel Messi have often had an uncomfortable relationship despite how great a player he clearly is. Often it's been thought that he saves his best for Barcelona and that has caused annoyance.

Being not quite your best is still better than the rest of your teammates, and most of the opposition, when you're Messi and he has helped them reach the World Cup final and two Copa America finals in three of the last four summers.

But his best achievement came last month when his hat-trick helped them qualify for next year's World Cup. Despite qualification the poor performances and a loss to Nigeria this week has put manager Jorge Sampaoli under a bit of pressure.

And now the mind of Maradona has compounded that by taking to social media to post his favourable win % record as national team boss and claim he wants the job:

The caption reads, "Who wins more ?? ... let's draw our conclusions, I'm hot because they give away our prestige, but the kids are not to blame.
I WANT TO GO BACK!!!"

Former Sevilla and Chile boss Sampaoli has only been manager of his country's national team since June of this year and it would be difficult to blame completely for their current problems.

Despite being a legend in his country as a footballer, having won the World Cup in 1986, quite how he got the role as manager in 2008 is anyone's guess with his previous role coming 13 years earlier at Racing Club.

His side only just made the 2010 World Cup, sneaking through qualification in an even tighter finish than the current side, and were smashed 4-0 by Germany in the quarter finals the next summer before he was eventually sacked.

Since then he's only been in charge at United Arab Emirates sides Al-Wasl and Fujairah SC and the chance of him becoming Argentina manager again seem slim, as wonderfully daft as it would be.
