Most people would love to play more football if they had the free time to do it. Which must be why Arsene Wenger is enjoying his time off right now, before a potential return in 2019.

22 years having a high profile and stressful job and in the summer Wenger finally got to sit back and have a bit of a break having left Arsenal following over two decades with the Gunners.

The Frenchman is still out of work and things had been pretty quiet about his future but now there's started to be talk about what he'll be doing next.

Wenger has been linked with a possible move to PSG to become their director of football but it won't happen until the end of the January transfer window.

Arsenal's former manager even said he should be back in 2019 telling Bild, "I believe I will start again on January 1. I don't know where yet. I feel rested and am ready to work again."

That still leaves the 68 year old with a couple of months off and if you need someone for 5-a-side you can do worse than him, as he proved on Wednesday night.

In front of 10,000 people at the Stade Jean-Laville he played over an hour of a charity match and played over an hour.

Wenger was joined by such French legends as Wenger, Didier Deschamps, Christian Karembeu and Laurent Blanc as they took on FC Gueugnon old boys and raised €21,000 for various charities.

The fans in the stadium certainly go their money's worth as the game was a 10 goal thriller, finishing 5-5.

It wasn't the first time Wenger was involved in a thriller in recent times, as he managed one of the teams in Per Mertesacker's testimonial at the weekend.

The game saw 'Mertesacker's Hannover 96 friends' take on a World XI managed by Arsene Wenger, who was in charge of Mertesacker for the entirety of his stay in North London and instated him as Arsenal academy boss before he left the club.

Claudio Pizarro, Torsten Frings and Kieran Gibbs were just a few of Mertesacker's former teammates to be involved in the send-off, which was obviously a 19-goal thriller.

Mertesacker, nicknamed "the BFG", played for both sides in the game and was on the scoresheet in front of 40,000 fans in attendance.

He left the pitch to a standing ovation late in the game and was replaced by his 67-year old father, Stefan.

The 34-year old struggled to fight back the tears as he shared an embrace with his old man and then continued to be overcome with emotion as he applauded fans in the stands.

There's something very special about the way he bowed out and it's no wonder he got a little choked. It's the opposite idea of what happened in Andrea Pirlo's testimonial earlier this year, when the Italian midfield maverick was replaced by his son, Niccolo.

Mertesacker gave a mandatory speech after the game, thanking those for turning it in their thousands to celebrate his career.

"Dear fans, what a send-off," the 34-year old said on the pitch.

"I couldn't have dreamed of playing in front of such an amazing crowd again here in Hannover. Thank you very, very much. It means the world to me that I am able to say goodbye here."
