Andrea Pirlo caused all of us to suffer from a broken heart when the retired at the end of 2017 but they'll be one last time to pull lovey faces at the Italian midfielder when he plays his testimonial later this year.

In the past few years there haven't been as many footballers as popular and well liked as Andrea Pirlo. The former Juventus player could make a coughing fit look cool and we all loved him for it.

As well as being aesthetically pleasing, not just in terms of his football skills let's be honest, the 38 year old had a rather successful career with six league titles, three Champions League wins, and a World Cup amongst other title wins.

Check out our video on some of Pirlo's best quotes:

He ended his career at New York City FC where he mixed the sublime with the 'I really can't be arsed anymore but someone's paying me a lot of money to live in New York.'

Whilst accepting an award in his hometown Brescia, where he also made his name as a footballer, he revealed his testimonial would be at the San Siro, saying, "It's the chance to share a special evening doing what we love most. The game will be at San Siro, the venue for so many battles over the years, on May 21."

The game will be played on a Monday just one day after the Serie A season has finished, which means that unless Juventus reach the Champions League final there's a chance some current players could join Pirlo for his big day.

And the fixture is hardly going to be short of star power. The former Juve player shared the pitch with some of the greats of his generation, the 2006 World Cup final and 2003, 2005 and 2007 Champions League finals he played in prove as much.

He always made it look so effortless, especially when he wasn't putting much effort in. Image: PA Images.

Speaking about what he could do in the future Piro said, "I only ever played football, so I think I'll remain in this world. Becoming a Coach is a hypothesis, but I don't know yet. I need to unwind for a while, then I'll have time to decide what I want to do."

Just one last chance to see our beloved stroke the ball around, can't wait!
