The footballing world without Andrea Pirlo is sure to be a worse place. But could the Italian be headed for Chelsea once his playing days are done? The Italian midfielder has had his say over the rumour.

Andrea Pirlo might not be quite the player he was and his time in the MLS for New York City might not have seen him glisten in the same way he used to but the few moments he has produced whilst he's been in America have been worth it.

On Saturday the former Juventus player announced that come the end of the MLS season he will be hanging up his boots with his New York City contract coming to an end.

But what next for the coolest footballer on the planet? Some have suggested that he could become a coach at Chelsea, linking up with the man who managed him during his time with the Old Lady, Antonio Conte.

In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport the 38 year old responded to the rumours of him moving to Stamford Bridge by answering a question about his future, saying:

"I do not know yet. I'll be back in Italy already in December. Conte's deputy? They say things. I have ideas, but give me time to decide."

When asked if he wanted to join former teammates 'Nesta, Gattuso, Inzaghi, Sheva' in moving to the bench as a coach the former AC Milan man said, "... And Grosso, Cannavaro, Zambrotta, Brocchi, Oddo. By now all. If I Think of Training? It is not said that since you were a good player you can do it. You have to be prepared and have a field test. You have to spark the spark. I have not been taken yet. "

It doesn't look like Pirlo's introduction to the Premier League is set in stone just yet, we just hope Chelsea manage to convince him to join as a player/coach even if it's just for one game, please!
