The 75-year old, who won 38 trophies in his glittering 26-year spell at United, took charge of a team assembled featuring players from the club's 2008 Champions League-winning side, pitted against an All Star XI that included the likes of Clarence Seedorf, John Terry, managed by Harry Redknapp.

The game marked 11 years of service at United for fan favourite Carrick and helped raise funds for numerous chosen charities through 'the Michael Carrick Foundation'.

And Ferguson, making his return to the dugout since retiring in 2013 after winning a 13th Premier League title, was on fine form in his pre-match team talk.

Rio Ferdinand has posted a video of 'Fergie' going through his team selection and tactics for the game at a sold-out Old Trafford, and it's an absolute must-watch for United fans.

It includes him ripping into his former players, with Ferdinand himself one of the primary victims of the great banter dished out by Sir Alex. There's also a little cheeky dig at United captain Wayne Rooney, which prompted plenty of laughter amongst the United squad.

The former Aberdeen boss also makes a point of complimenting his players on how they've turned out as people as well as players, with several former players enjoying success in different fields - Neville in his punditry and entrepreneurial exploits in and around Manchester, Scholes and Ferdinand as pundits, and Van Der Saar as CEO at Ajax to name a few.

United's class of 2008 would go on to draw 2-2 in an action-packed game with Harry Redknapp's 'All Stars'.

Former Valencia and Barcelona midfielder Gaizka Mendieta opened the scoring 21 minutes in for the visitors, before Nemanja Vidic got on the end of Ryan Giggs's corner seven minutes later to draw the Red Devils level.

Robbie Keane restored his side's lead with a wonderfully flicked finish over Edwin van der Sar, but the man the game revolved around, Carrick, would have the final say when he struck home a brilliant low drive from 25 yards out eight minutes from time.

A well deserved dab, if ever there was one.
