Sir Alex Ferguson has been quite quiet as a Manchester United fan since the days that he told the rest of the fans to get behind the new manager. That wasn't about Jose Mourinho or even LvG but David Moyes but now Fergie has had his say on United's season.

In May 2013 Fergie retired as Premier League champion for the 13th time. In a speech to the Old Trafford crowd he talked about the new era and everyone getting behind the new man.

That would be David Moyes but the former manager's fellow Scot wouldn't even last a season in the red half of Manchester, despite signing a six year deal from Everton.

After that didn't work out Louis van Gaal came in but after two years of boring football United got rid of the Dutchman a year early to the end of his contract and in came Mourinho.

The Special One has always seemed destined for the job at Old Trafford, it just took him a little longer. Now Fergie, speaking to BBC Sport has had his say on United's season so far saying:

"The team is playing really well and he has been very unlucky. He has had six 1-1 draws and in every game he has battered the opposition.

"If they hadn't had all these draws, they would be there challenging Chelsea. That is the unfortunate part but he is going to have to live with that."

Things have generally improved under Mourinho for United and there are less 0-0 draws than under the LvG era.

However draws against Burnley, Stoke, Arsenal, West Ham and Everton have been frustrating for the Red Devils and they could arguably be 12 points better off.

If they did have all of those as wins, Stoke twice, then they might only be two points behind leaders Chelsea.

Of course it's a little too simple to say that and the Red Devils have had some controversial decisions go in their favour and against them this season.

Can Mourinho get United into the top four? Fergie seems to think so.
