Despite the new domestic season barely underway, the international scene takes center stage with World Cup qualifiers on deck including Spain's fixture against Italy.

As well as the Azzurri's, Spain travel to Liechtenstein on Tuesday night as they bid to secure their spot in the World Cup.

And ahead of the two games, Julen Lopetegui has sensationally recalled David Villa. The Spanish all-time goal scorer makes his return to the national team set up after retiring following their 2014 World Cup campaign.

Since the 35-year-old has been out of international action, Alvaro Morata has been sporting the No.7 jersey.

But the Chelsea striker has happily given up the shirt, while handing it over to the returning Villa.

"The No.7 belongs to David Villa," Morata said via Goal.

New York City FC star is delighted to make his return. Speaking to AS, he said: "I'm on cloud nine. I'm really happy to see all of my friends again, not just players. I have great memories from here."

"The same as always. To help, to be one more, and to give everything I've got for a win against Italy. It is down to the coach, and I'm going to give my all to help however he wants," he added.

Continuing by giving his thoughts on the current crop of talent while singling out Real Madrid's Marco Asensio.

"Young players have arrived, each one [playing] at their clubs. I think that after we won the World Cup, everyone said that it would be difficult to continue the run, and it can seem like what comes after doesn't have as much value. But you have to let things work, look at the quality in the squad, and have patience. I hope that we'll have another glorious era."

"You just have to look at him to enjoy him, and we're going to enjoy him for years to come. He's doing more than enough to be a starter," Villa said about Asensio.

Will Villa add to his 59 international goals tonight or on Tuesday?
