Jose Mourinho's Roma To Raid Man United For Wonderkid Who Hasn't Made Single First-Team Appearance

Jose Mourinho's Roma To Raid Man United For Wonderkid Who Hasn't Made Single First-Team Appearance

Former Man United boss Jose Mourinho is keen to add another full-back to Roma's squad and Tottenham target Charlie Wellens is on his radar.

Jose Mourinho reportedly wants Roma to raid his former club and sign Manchester United wonderkid Charlie Wellens.

The Special One is believed to be an admirer of the 19-year-old United starlet and watched him develop during his two-and-a-half seasons at Old Trafford.

Mourinho had prepared to integrate Wellens among the United first team towards the end of his reign at the Red Devils.

And the Roma manager had been interested in signing the United whizkid when he was in charge of Tottenham.

Spurs are still keeping tabs on Wellens’ development at United, despite Mourinho getting sacked back in April.

According to The Sun, Mourinho wants to add the United defender to his ranks in Roma’s bid to challenge for a top-four spot in Serie A.

Wellens, who is under contract until 2022, has scored once and registered three assists in 14 appearances from full-back.

Mourinho’s desire to land a new right-back had seen Roma linked with Diogo Dalot, who was described as an “extremely talented young defender” by the Special One.

Dalot had been battling for minutes at United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer early in the season and a January exit from the club initially seemed likely.

However, the 22-year-old defender has managed to dislodge Aaron Wan-Bissaka as United’s first-choice right-back under interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

Rangnick has used Dalot for the full 90 minutes in his first two Premier League matches in charge of the club.

Roma are currently sixth under Mourinho and are six points adrift from fourth-place Atalanta in the Serie A table.

Mourinho has ruled out that Roma will make a big-money purchase in the January transfer window, but he insisted that he wants to add “more balance to the team.”

Speaking earlier this month, the former United and Chelsea manager said: “I am not unhappy with our summer signings, we didn’t argue because they didn’t sign a midfielder.

“It was a reactive transfer window, so we couldn’t sign certain players. I’ve understood the difficulties, I want the best possible team, but I know we won’t make a big investment [in January] as we usually do during the summer.

“In January, we will give more balance to the team, let’s see if we can do something we have a few limits and in a normal situation the team would be more balanced, but now we have three games and we must collect as many points as possible.”
