'Everybody Now Laughs' - Jamie Carragher And Paul Scholes Ruthlessly Mock Arsenal In Front Of Their Fans

Jamie Carragher and Paul Scholes have pulled no punches towards Arsenal after heavily criticising the problems at the north London club.

Arsene Wenger stepped down as Arsenal manager in 2018 and was replaced by Unai Emery, who was sacked after a trophyless 18 months in charge.

Mikel Arteta succeeded Emery at Arsenal and led the Gunners to the FA Cup in 2020, but only finish eighth in the Premier League that season.

The 39-year-old Spaniard earned more points with Arsenal in the Premier League 2020-21 season, but Arsenal finished eighth for the second consecutive campaign.

Arteta came under significant pressure after Arsenal suffered three consecutive defeats in their opening three Premier League matches.

Arsenal climbed to 11th in the table ahead of the international break, but Carragher and Scholes are far from impressed with the Gunners.

Speaking on Sky’s The Overlap series, Manchester United legend Scholes criticised Arsenal’s consistency and believes their fans will turn on Arteta again.

“It’s going to be that type of year for Arsenal,” he said.

“They are going to have three or four games where they are going to do great.

“Everybody is going to say ‘they are going to win the league’ and then they will have three or four games where Arteta is going to be out and sacked.”

Carragher took a brutal swipe at Arsenal by saying that fans now laugh at them.

“They are a team that everybody now laughs at, aren’t they, Arsenal,” he added.

Arsenal are only four points adrift from fourth-place United and third-place Manchester City.

Chelsea are considered the strong favourites to challenge City for the Premier League title, with Liverpool and United tipped to finish in the top four.

However, Carragher claimed that Arsenal would be the “best equipped to challenge” for a Champions League place this season.

Speaking in The Daily Telegraph, the Sky Sports pundit said: “I can’t see anyone else breaking through. We can already see which are the top four strongest Premier League teams.

“The team that I think is worth watching closely as the season evolves is Arsenal.

“If they can get the consistency into their young side, the lack of European football can be a massive help for Mikel Arteta as he spends more time with his players on the training ground.

“I think it is too soon for them to qualify for the Champions League, but of the chasing pack they may prove themselves best equipped to challenge.”
