Absolutely soccered this right into the net

Think of Gervinho and your mind will immediately wander towards memories of a bloke with a bewildering head of hair who spent two seasons making Arsenal fans cry.

The Ivorian was not the sort of player Premier League fans would ordinarily associate with 25-yard screamers.

Yet the former Gunners forward has walloped home a sensational strike for Chinese club Hebei Fortune during their Chinese Super League clash with Shanghai Shenhua.

Having scored just 11 goals in 63 appearances over the course of his two seasons at the Emirates stadium, the Ivorian has proved to be more reliable in front of goal since leaving North London in 2013.

During the 30-year-old's time with Roma, he found the net 26 times in 88 outings and, last year, became one of the first major European based players to make the move to the Far East, signing for Hebei for a reported fee of £15 million. Small change in comparison to the fees some Chinese Super League clubs have parted with for talent over the past 18 months.

And, while the African Cup of Nations winner's time in China won't be regarded as the high point of his career, he at least seems to be making the most of it, as this thundering effort today proves.

Unfortunately for Gervinho, despite him absolutely battering the ball into the top corner, it wasn't enough for Fortune, who succumbed to a 3-2 defeat to Shenhua.
