One for the future

A couple of weeks ago, we profiled Manchester United's next, next big thing (after Marcus Rashford), Angel Gomes. The 16-year-old Portuguese prodigy has been on fire for the Red Devils' youth teams and was at his mercurial best against Everton, yesterday.

Although United would throw away the lead Gomes gave them in the 20th minute in a 1-1 draw with the Toffees U16s team, the prodigious playmaker's thunderous effort proved to be the stand out moment from the match.

However, the game wasn't without it's low point for Gomes, cousin of former United winger Nani, as he later missed a golden opportunity to win the game by missing a penalty after Everton had equalised.

The Angolan born playmaker was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona last year after a series of scintillating displays for United's youth teams, but, as he revealed in a recent interview with theSPORTbible, he's not thinking about leaving Old Trafford for the forseeable future:

"In five years time, I would like to be playing professionally for Manchester United. Winning titles is huge for me. I want to play international football, play in World Cups and European Championships. I want to be the best player at my age level.

"I set myself high standards and try to push myself to play at the highest level."

With strikes like this latest effort, United fans will be delighted to hear Gomes talking about his future at the club so readily, rather than stirring the pot about possible moves elsewhere.

How long before we see the Portuguese youngster in the first team? Will Jose Mourinho give youth a chance?
