He may have had a tough time of things during Chile's recent 1-0 loss to Argentina, but Alexis Sanchez was back to his best with a devastating display against Venezuela, last night.

Sanchez and his compatriots desperately needed a win after their reverse to Lionel Messi and co, last week and a 3-1 victory over Venezuela, who remain rooted to the bottom of the CONMEBOL World Cup qualification table, was the perfect remedy for their loss in Buenos Aires.

Against Argentina, Sanche cut a frustrated figure, with the Arsenal man refusing to acknowledge the travelling fans at the final whistle as he stormed down the tunnel to the changing rooms.

Reports have since claimed that several members of the Chile team confronted the 28-year-old about his attitude and explained to him that it wasn't right to take his frustrations out on the fans.

Last night, Sanchez instead took out his frustrations on Venezuela, thumping home a wicked free-kick and laying on another two goals in a performance Arsenal fans will be praying to see replicated on a regular basis between now and the end of the season.

The free kick put Sanchez level with former Lazio striker Marcelo Salas on 37 goals as the join all time leading goal scorer for Chile.

The former Barcelona man then produced a mesmeric run before sliding in Charles Aranguiz, who squared across goal for Esteban Pardes to double Chile's lead early in the second half, before Sanchez nodded back across goal for Paredes to tap home his second of the game half way through the second period.

The victory sees Chile leapfrog Argentina into the top four automatic qualification spots for next year's World Cup in Russia, with a Lionel Messi-less Albiceleste slumping to a 2-0 defeat against Bolivia in La Paz, last night.
