Dimitri Payet's name may only be uttered with disdain around the Olympic Stadium nowadays but back in October the mercurial Frenchman was once again rescuing Slaven Bilic's team and he did it with arguably his greatest goal for the Hammers.

Finding themselves 1-0 yet again at their new Olympic Stadium home, the Hammers were in need of some inspiration and, when the former Marseille man received the ball on the left wing in the second half, that's exactly what he provided.

Payet dizzied his full-back, turning him inside out, before taking the rest of 'Boro's defence on an adventure and then coolly rolling the ball past Victor Valdes to put the icing on the cake of what is surely one of the goals of the season.

Lionel Messi, eat your heart out.

Despite Payet's early season heroics, the 29-year-old would soon do his utmost to engineer a move away from the Hammers so he could return to Marseille.

The Frenchman refused to train with the club's reserves when Slaven Bilic demoted him from first team duties due to disruptive, unprofessional behaviour. Payet's actions naturally drew the ire of the Hammers fans, who invented some not so complimentary chants about their one time idol:

Payet's insistence on a return to the South of France even prompted 14 time WWE Champion Triple H to become involved in the situation:

Payet returned to l'OM for £25m in January in spite of 'The Game's' insistence that he remain in East London. Regrettably, a WrestleMania match was not booked for the pair of them to settle their dispute, so 'The Cerebral Assassin' has instead settled on a 'non-sanctioned' bout with Seth Rollins in Orlando, this Sunday.
