Raheem Sterling Scores Brilliant Goal In The Champions League

The Manchester City winger won the most ridiculous penalty ever in the Champions League but followed it with a brilliant strike.

Somedays it feels like Raheem Sterling can't keep himself out of the news and Wednesday night's Champions League game between Manchester City and Shakhtar Donetsk provided one of those days thanks in part to his brilliant goal.

There are certain times when Raheem Sterling being in the headlines is somewhat ridiculous as certain media outlets manage to get actual stories about the taps he's bought his mum or where he goes shopping, and you think we write rubbish.

On Wednesday the Manchester City winger hit the headlines once again when the referee gave a penalty when the England winger kicked the ground nowhere near a defender. The criticism should have all been at the ref but somehow some people felt the former Liverpool man should have told the official not to give a penalty, give over.

But Sterling wasn't going to be happy with the narrative about the game being the penalty he shouldn't have got and found a way to grab all the positive headlines.

The 23 year old scored a brilliant goal at the beginning of the second half, taking on several defenders before bending the ball brilliantly past the keeper:

Sterling's been in excellent form for City this season and in the Champions League in general and is only the second player for the Etihad owned club to reach 10 goals in Europe's premier competition.

Sergio Aguero's 27 puts him top of the pile, by some way, but Sterling is now on double figures and it's pretty impressive for the winger:

It was certainly a good night for Pep Guardiola's side as they wracked up an impressive 6-0 win over their Ukrainian opposition ahead of Sunday's derby against Manchester United.

Guardiola was able to rest players as Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane were on the bench as City took control of Group F.
