Liverpool's Champions League prospects are being tested at half-time of their group game against Red Star Belgrade after Milan Pakov's first half brace gave the Serbian side a lead after 45 minutes.

Last season Liverpool defied expectation by getting to the final of the Champions League, only to lose following Loris Karius' infamous display and Gareth Bale's incredible first goal.

This season Jurgen Klopp's side's priority is the Premier League, where they've started brilliantly, but they still have designs on trying to better their surprising run from last season.

They got a difficult group stage draw when PSG and Napoli came out of the hat with them but they continued their excellent European form with an opening round win against the Ligue 1 champions to put themselves in pole position.

An away loss to Napoli took the shine off their win but they picked up their second win against Red Star Belgrade to top the table at the half-way mark.

A win away against Red Star would have put them in pole position to qualify but in an intimidating stadium they found themselves 2-0 down at half time thanks to Milan Pakov's brace, including this beauty:

Georginio Wijnaldum was caught in possession and then couldn't drag the 24 year old Serbian striker through fear of giving away a free kick but Pakov punished the Dutchman and Alisson might have done better with the attempted save.

Earlier in the match Daniel Sturridge had a chance to put the Reds 1-0 up, when the scores were level, but blasted half volley over the bar.

Liverpool ideally need to get a result with a tricky tie away in the French capital to come next before a potential qualification decider at home against Napoli at the end of the group.

The last thing Klopp would want to do is find his side in the Europa League after a start to the domestic season that has left his side just two points behind leaders Manchester City and undefeated after 11 games.
