Kylian Mbappe attempted one of the cheekiest goals in the history of football on Wednesday night when his casual rabona from outside the area sailed just wide.

It was an easy midweek night for PSG on Wednesday as they ran out 6-1 winners against St Etienne in Ligue 1 to stretch their lead at the top to seven points, with a game in hand over second place Marseille.

It was so easy that in the 78th minute Mbappe tried the outrageous rabona from outside the box, only for it to sail just wide of Jessy Moulin's post.

With so much attacking talent in the PSG ranks it didn't need to be Mbappe's night. The World Cup winning star got himself on the scoresheet, as did Neymar, but the headlines belonged to Mauro Icardi.

The striker, on loan from Inter this season, bagged his first hat-trick for the French club and his first in any club game since scoring four for the Nerazzurri in March 2018.

Icardi has now scored nine goals in 11 Ligue 1 appearances, as well as five in six in the Champions League and three in two in the Coup de la Ligue.

If he were to become available in the transfer market at any point then Mbappe would be one of the most sought after players in the world and Real Madrid and Liverpool have often been linked.

The Reds link mainly comes from fans and the belief that their new link with Nike would see them American kit manufacturer help pay for the 21-year-olds wages.

According to CIES Observatory the former Monaco forward is the most valuable player in the world, valued at €265 million.
