One YouTuber wanted to experiment...

It's been a question on the lips of football fans for a while now: what would happen if Celtic and Rangers were added to the Premier League?

The two Glasgow clubs have dominated Scottish football for years now and many have wondered if how they would fare if they did try their luck in English football.

FIFA YouTuber 'Hepic' was one of those people, and with no way of knowing unless the two Scottish giants become part of the English football system in the same way that Swansea City and Cardiff City have been since joining the Football League in 1920 and 1921 respectively, took it upon himself to see how things would play out on FIFA 17 career mode.

Watch what happened in the first three seasons in following clip:

In the 11-season experiment, Celtic had much more success than their bitter rivals.

The Bhoys finished 16th on 37 points in their first season in the Premier League, while Rangers finished rock bottom of the top tier, having obtained just 21 points from 38 games.

By the third season, both Glasgow outfits were in the Championship after their respective relegations in different instances. Rangers achieved promotion in season three after winning the play-offs, though they were relegated instantly in the first season back in the big-time and did not get back to the promise land after that during the course of the experiment.

As for Celtic, with the ratings of their squad seeing a considerable improvement, they finally got their act together and were back in the Premier League when the fifth season rolled around.

Five seasons on, they achieved their best ever Premier League finish when they claimed the last top-half spot by ending the campaign in 10th place.

However, they would go on to join Rangers in the second tier of English football after suffering relegation again in the eleventh and final season of the experiment. In addition, Celtic lost out 3-2 to Swansea City in the EFL Cup final before being sent packing to the Championship.

In summary, Celtic had the better run than Rangers but neither Glasgow club made huge strides in English football.

Back to reality for a moment, both clubs have been lobbying for entry south of the border for years, and thee appeared to be a glimmer of hope as it was reported back in June that many countries were holding active discussions with UEFA about the possibility of cross border leagues, according to The Times.

Celtic have been utterly dominant this season, as they strolled to a sixth consecutive domestic title by wrapping up the league in April as well as lifting the League Cup back in November.

Brendan Rodgers' side are unbeaten domestically this term and have the chance of doing the treble should they beat Aberdeen again in the second Cup final meeting between the two top teams in Scotland at Hampden Park, this time in the Scottish Cup final.

Rangers, meanwhile, were thumped by their cross-town rivals just five days ago when goals from Scott Sinclair, Leigh Griffiths, Callum McGregor, Dedryck Boyata and Mikael Lustig did the business in a resounding 5-1 win at Ibrox.

As a result of that drubbing, Rangers are nine points behind second-placed Aberdeen and it's clear that the current squad belonging to Pedro Caixinha, who took over in March, is nowhere near cut out to serious challenge Celtic in the Scottish top flight.

In fact, Rodgers rates his current side so highly that he believes they would be cut out for the demands of the Premier League, and would have enough about them to finish in the top four or six.

Speaking to Sky Sports last month, he said:

"Could we play in the Premier League? Yes, we could.

"I have absolutely no doubt about it because we've got the Celtic factor. We have 60,000 every other week. Without the money alone, this team would compete in the Premier League.

"We took a Swansea team who won the Championship into the Premier League and we finished 11th but for us and what we were trying to do that was very, very good.

"But this is Celtic. This is one of the great iconic clubs in the world so there is no doubt that with this group we could go in [there and compete]. Imagine the backing then. Celtic would be one of the minimum top four, top six clubs in the English Premier League and then that puts you on a different level altogether."

Do you think Celtic or Rangers could compete at all in the Premier League? Do you want to see it happen?
