Leeds United fans mocked Manchester United youngster Hannibal Mejbri for looking like Sideshow Bob on Wednesday night but the teenager had the last laugh with a win and a brilliant response.

The two club's under 18 sides met in the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup at a loud Old Trafford, thanks in the main to the healthy number of away support that travelled from across the Pennines.

Leeds' fans chanted all night with 17-year-old Mejbri's hair one of the targets of their songs:

There was no clowning around from the home side though and they and their young midfielder had the last laugh, probably the last two.

The home side qualified for their first FA Youth Cup quarter final in eight years thanks to a goal from Dillon Hoogewerf in a 1-0 win, which saw Leeds reduced to 10 men when Henri Kumwenda was sent off.

After the match Mejbri responded to the away fans with a post on social media saying, "Sideshow Bob, I admit there is a small resemblance. Good win tonight, 1-0 vs Leeds in the FA Youth Cup, through to the next round!," accompanied with a picture of the Simpsons' character.

The match was the first time in 10 years since a Leeds team had visited Old Trafford, since the FA Cup third round match in 2010 when Jermaine Beckford scored the only goal of the game to send the then League One side through.

It's been even longer since the Elland Road side faced their rivals in the league and after the match head of first team development Nicky Butt spoke to the Manchester Evening News about the Championship side returning to the Premier League, saying, "It's a healthy rivalry; Leeds are a great club, a massive club and I can't wait for them to get back into the Premier League, if I'm honest. Because it's part of a healthy, really good rivalry we have."

Marcelo Bielsa will be hoping he can finally get his side back into England's top tier, after 16 years outside of it, and they are currently in the automatic promotion places.

Recent form has seen them slip closer to the teams behind them and Fulham are now just three points from overtaking them.

If Wednesday night's game is anything to go by the Premier League will be all the better for having Leeds back in it.
