It would be fair to say Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain isn't having the best of times at the moment.

Having turned down a lucrative new contract at Arsenal, he got his big £35 million move to Liverpool, and though it's early days, it's really not worked out thus far.

Since leaving for Anfield, he's made seven appearances, tasting victory just once. He has only made one start against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup, where he had an absolute nightmare in a 2-0 defeat.

Restricted to bit-part cameos at club level, his inclusion in the starting XI for the World Cup qualifier with Slovenia on Thursday came as a real surprise to fans, with plenty of reactions coming in on social media.

The 24-year old desperately needed a good performance but unfortunately it just wasn't the case, as the Southampton youth product endured another tough night.

To be fair to him, no-one in particular shone for England it was a dismal display at Wembley, however 'Ox', making his 30th appearance for his country, was again below-par and played like someone struggling for form and confidence at the moment.

And one moment really summed up his situation at the moment,

The former Arsenal man, playing on the right flank, had a difficult night's work and it was completely summed up by him attempting to spit on the pitch in frustration - something you see on a regular basis from footballers.

Yet somehow, he managed to secrete saliva on himself. To make matter's worse, footage of the spit fail was shown live on Television, at the exact same moment Clive Tyldesley uttered the words, "It hasn't been the best of month for him".

Social media ripped into Oxlade-Chamberlain, even if it was the best dribble he did all game:

Almost immediately after the unfortunate misplaced spit, Oxlade-Chamberlain was replaced by Jesse Lingard in the 64th minute and kicked some water bottles in anger.

Poor Ox.
