Ronaldo vs Toni Kroos was not the first Twitter spat of 2017 that we were expecting.
But that's what we've got after the Brazilian legend responded to the German international's dig at his country while wishing his followers a Happy New Year.
Kroos took to Twitter last night as millions around the world brought the curtain down on 2016 - and for some reason fancied having a little dig at Brazil.

Kroos was involved in the Germany team which beat the Brazilians 7-1 on the way to winning the World Cup in 2014.
And this was his New Year message:
As you can see, it's proven pretty popular, with over 187,000 retweets and over 175,000 likes.

You can imagine the majority of those interactions came from Germans who have fond memories of that day in Brazil three years ago.
Most Brazilians wouldn't have been happy with the funny tweet, but they got a good response from Ronaldo this afternoon as he cited the 2002 World Cup final.
Brazil beat Germany in that final in Japan, with Ronaldo scoring a double to down the Germans:
That's proven just as popular with Brazilians as Kroos' did with Germans last night.

These are the sort of funny Twitter spats we want to see.
