The strange rivalry between Gary Neville and Xherdan Shaqiri has taken another twist after the Liverpool forward joined in on a bet involving the former Manchester United defender and his fellow Monday Night Football pundit Jamie Carragher.

Xherdan Shaqiri should be careful when responding to criticism by Gary Neville and take heed from a fellow colleague at Anfield.

Once upon a time Neville criticised goalkeeper Loris Karius after a poor display against Bournemouth and even though Jamie Carragher also laid into the Liverpool goalkeeper it was only the former United man that Karius responded to.

Nearly two years on and Neville finds himself involved in another exchange. The Sky Sports pundit criticised Xherdan Shaqiri during the World Cup, before he was a Liverpool player, and now the forward is trying to get his own back.

Neville lost a bet to Jamie Carragher in the summer meaning he needs to wear a Liverpool shirt on tv at some point but called out on it recently the former Valencia manager defended his lack of paying up:

Ahead of tonight's MNF televised game between Crystal Palace and Liverpool though Carragher is coming armed with a signed shirt from Shaqiri, with a cheeky dig at Neville's criticism mentioned:

During the World Cup Neville had criticised the former Stoke City for his work rate during the Potters relegation run saying, "I'm not a fan of Shaqiri to be honest with you.

"I think that was to be fair made worse by the fact that he distanced himself from his team-mates as Stoke.

"They were unprofessional last season Stoke there's no doubt and he epitomises it. 'He could score the goal of the tournament and he could have the most amazing game.

"But he could also be there for three matches, do nothing and just amble and wobble around. 'To be honest with you, with him, players like that I can't have. I struggle with it."

It's fair to say the pair wouldn't exactly get on.

But Shaqiri should probably concentrate on getting better at football rather than getting involved in public spats with Neville because it didn't exactly end well for the last Liverpool player who tried that...
