UFC Offer Harry Kane Some Help After Blatant Penalty Isn't Given

UFC Offer Harry Kane Some Help After Blatant Penalty Isn't Given

England could have had two spot kicks as they could only draw with Tunisia in their World Cup opener.

VAR was supposed to stop blatant penalties being missed and up until Monday night it seemed to be doing that job but it was England on the end of the first bad decisions. Fortunately UFC were on hand to give us a chuckle about it.

There was a lot of talk about VAR before the World Cup and annoyingly pundits have made sure there's been plenty of talk about it since the tournament started as well.

The conversation has been pretty annoying, especially as pretty much all the decisions have been spot on by the computers and the officials sat awkwardly in their kit in Moscow, miles away from most of the games.

On Monday afternoon Sweden were awarded a penalty 100% correctly by VAR with South Korea running down the other end of the pitch, it was the perfect implementation of the system.

But hours later England were not so lucky. The referee somehow missed Harry Kane getting speared by a Tunisian defender in the area on the stroke of halftime and VAR didn't award it either.

Fortunately UFC Europe were about to give some very handy advice:

What made it even worse was that Kane and England should have had a second penalty as well, this time because of a rear choke hold being applied at a corner:

The ref was getting some abuse on Twitter as well, generally because he had a really piss poor game.

Fortunately it didn't matter in the end with Kane getting revenge on the officials with a last gasp winner to kick England's World Cup campaign off in perfect fashion, no thanks to the ref.
