Premier League Refereeing Hits New Low Following Bizarre Decision

Premier League Refereeing Hits New Low Following Bizarre Decision

This is getting embarrassing...

Just when we thought English refereeing couldn't get any worse, Martin Atkinson goes and rules Harry Kane offside at a throw-in.

That's right - if Mike Dean sending people off for absolutely nothing wasn't bad enough, we've now got officials disregarding the rules to give some seriously bizarre decisions.

The latest embarrassment came during Tottenham's Premier League clash with Chelsea at White Hart Lane last night when Atkinson blew up for a foul after a Danny Rose throw to Kane.

At first you wonder if there's been a foul in the build-up, but you quickly see that the ref is signalling for offside. Seriously.

This comes just days after Dean sent Sofiane Feghouli off for a tackle on Phil Jones - a decision that led to a ban that now been overturned by the FA. It actually beggars belief that the linesman's flag went up - and Atkinson didn't realise that it was a mistake.

Fortunately the decision didn't stop Tottenham from getting a chance at the Chelsea goal and the Blues defenders were set to clear anyway. But this is not a golden era of English football referees.
