Fernando Marcal was left red-faced after he scored a hilarious own goal in Paris Saint-Germain's 4-2 win over Lyon.

Angel Di Maria opened the scoring in the first half after cutting in from the wing and finishing with a powerful low-driven shot from a tight angle.

Kylian Mbappe doubled PSG's advantage and Lyon suffered another major setback in the second half as they scored a comical own goal.

Julian Draxler charged down the left flank and attempted to play the ball into one of his teammates, only for Anthony Lopes to put him under pressure by charging out of his net.

Thiago Mendes desperately tried to clear the ball out of the area, but hilariously knocked it back into the path of Draxler.

The 26-year-old German kept the ball in play and tried to guide it into the path of an unmarked Di Maria inside the box.

But Draxler was fortunate enough to see his pass land into the path of Marcal, who stumbled as he produced a sublime finish to hammer the ball into his own net.

Lyon attempted to stage a comeback after their embarrassing own goal as Martin Terrier scored for his side minutes later.

And Moussa Dembele added Lyon's second in the 59th minute at the Parc des Princes.

However, PSG sealed their 4-2 victory after Edinson Cavani, who has been linked with a move away from the club, scored deep into the second half.

Thomas Tuchel's men continue to assert their dominance over Ligue 1 as they hold a 12-point lead at the top of the table.

PSG will return to action on Wednesday against Dijon for their quarter-final clash in the French Cup.
