Lionel Messi Has Commented On The Obviously Fake Restaurant Bill Picture

Lionel Messi Has Commented On The Obviously Fake Restaurant Bill Picture

How were people falling for this?

Yesterday, a photo began doing the rounds on social media of an apparent tab Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Cesc Fabregas and their wives had run up at a restaurant in Ibiza.

Somehow, people began to believe that a group of six people were capable of going through โ‚ฌ37,330 worth of food and drink in one sitting.

Now, OK, given that Messi, Suarez and Fabregas are three of the wealthiest footballers in the world and Ibiza is a location not exactly known for its reasonable prices, when you hear that the trio had spent what equates to not even a twentieth of their combined weekly wages, you may be tempted to believe it.

But when you inspect the receipt closer, you'll begin to realise that there's little chance six people went through 41 BOTTLES OF DOM PERIGNON and 27 PIZZAS, let alone the hamburgers that are apparently made from what appear to be cows that were fed a diet of diamonds and pieces of that one off record Wu Tang Clan made a couple of years back to be coming in at over โ‚ฌ100 a pop.

So when Instagram account Juezcentral posted a snap of the receipt onto their timeline, it became noticeable not for what was included in the picture, but for who commented on it.

The man himself, five time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi, responded with the most emphatic of replies to dispel the, quite frankly, ludicrous assumptions that six people could go through so much food and drink in one night.

Translated from Spanish to English, Messi's comment reads, "What a way to talk shit. What a way to invent (lie). The cutest thing is that people believe it."

Had the bill been legitimate, new Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde would have had no option but to drop Messi and Suarez for the opening La Liga games of the season. Not for over indulging on alcohol, but for paying over a tenner for a plate of chips. That would have been unforgivable.
