London Underground Station Named Changed In Gareth Southgate's Honour

The most British way possible to celebrate England's run to the World Cup semi-final and it couldn't be more deserved for the manager.

After England reached the semi finals of the World Cup for only the third time in history, and the first time since 1990, manager Gareth Southgate is being celebrated by getting a London Underground station named after him.

If you listen carefully you might still be able to hear the words 'it's coming home' echoing down narrow streets up and down England. We may have stopped singing it but the actions of the football team and that song will have a longer lasting impact.

Finally once again people can enjoy the England football team. The 'Golden Generation' constantly failing wore us down and the years after ground our belief into oblivion so we barely cared anymore.

The 2018 World Cup has reignited the enjoyment and belief in the Three Lions and whether opposition want to get wound up by that idea or not that can only be a good thing.

One man deserves credit for that above all else and it is of course Gareth Southgate. The manager has delivered one hell of a run at the tournament and made the England team seem personable and affable.

So what's the best way to honour his achievement, well of course in the most British way possible it's by changing Southgate station on the London Underground to 'Gareth Southgate station':

Southgate is an area of North London and the station is on the Victoria line and for the short term future it's going to be visited by a lot of people wearing blue waistcoats.

Even to the end the England manager remained humble and honest about the side's achievements at the World Cup, further proving wrong people who think the song showed arrogance, saying:

"They [the players] will be buoyed by the positive experiences, of which there have been many. But equally we know, we are under no illusions, about where we sit in the world standings.

"So the defeats have, I think, been hugely important for our development as well. We finished in the top four, deservedly, in this tournament - helped by the draw.

"But we're not a top four team yet. And we know that.

"It's nice that we've got the enthusiasm and the encouragement from the tournament - the belief from some of the experiences we've been through.

"That allows us now to go back and to identify exactly what we need to do, and for the players to reflect on that as well."

Now who's off for a picture at Gareth Southgate station?
